Therapy is an investment in yourself. It is an investment that I take seriously. We will do hard work together, but we will do it with the intention of helping you to work through your challenges and move towards the life you have been wanting to live.

Why I do not take insurance

I take the investment you are making seriously, and it is my goal to provide you with the best care possible. Unfortunately, being paneled with insurance providers takes a great deal of time that is better spent on treatment planning, training, and prepping for your session. Insurance can also sometimes limit the number of sessions we can work together, require a diagnosis for your records, and may require more information about you than I feel comfortable providing them. I feel strongly that our work together should be driven by you, your specific needs, and your goals and not determined by a company.

For these reasons, I do not accept insurance and I am considered an out-of-network provider. This means that I do not accept insurance directly, but you may be able to receive reimbursement with your insurance provider.

Reimbursement with your insurance

You will be provided with a “superbill” (detailed document of the services received) after payment for your session has been received. This superbill is what you will use to submit a claim for reimbursement from your insurance provider. If you plan to file a claim to be reimbursed, this will require that I provide a diagnosis. Please be aware that not all insurance companies will reimburse you, and the amount they will reimburse varies. For this reason, I highly recommend that you call your insurance provider to discuss your individualized plan prior to beginning therapy with me. You will want to verify that your insurance will reimburse for telehealth services, as I am currently not providing in-person sessions at this time but hope to in the near future.

Filing for reimburseent

Submitting a claim for reimbursement may have specific steps depending on your insurance. You should discuss the process with them. Some steps you may have to take might include:

  • Log in on your specific insurance website, and select the option to submit a claim.

  • Fill in the necessary information, and then upload the superbill (invoice).

  • Make sure to let them know that you have already paid and that you are looking to be reimbursed. You can write it in all caps (e.g., PROVIDER PAID, PATIENT REIMBURSEMENT REQUESTED).

  • If they ask for a provider signature, tell them to “see invoice.”

  • Do not select any options that ask you to authorize assignment because then they will send the reimbursement to me and not you.

Forms of payment

I will request payment through your client portal on simplepractice. When I bill you through this secure platform, you will be given the option to use a debit card, credit card, FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account).
